"Access is denied" failure message with LANrev Agent Deployment Center

Problem:

What can cause the LANrev Agent Deployment Center (ADC) to give me "Access is denied. (Error=5)" error messages when I attempt to push install the LANrev client software to Windows targets?

Solution:

This error message typically means that the administrator credentials you have specified are invalid on the Windows targets you wish to push install the LANrev client software to. There are two cases, however, where you can receive this error message even when the administrator credentials you have specified in the Agent Deployment Settings command dialog are actually valid on selected targets.

Case #1 - Deploying the LANrev agent using the ADC to remote computers may not work when

The LANrev administrator console is running on Windows VISTA (32-bit or 64-bit), Windows XP 64-bit, or Windows 2003 Server
And the current logged-in user on that administrator console computer has no administrator rights on the remote target computers

To resolve this problem, log into the administrator console computer with a user account that has administrator rights on the remote target machines.

Case #2 - Deploying the LANrev agent locally using the ADC to the administrator console computer itself may not work when

The LANrev administrator console is running on Windows VISTA (32-bit or 64-bit)
And the current logged-in user has turned ON the User Account Control feature

To resolve this problem, disable the User Account Control feature or install the LANrev agent locally by running the agent installer. Note that you must also be logged in with a user account with administrator rights on the administrator console computer.
