Mac OS X Leopard Specific Features

Time Machine Integration

Time Machine

Leveraging the power of OS X's Time Machine, LANrev's Reinstall Computer command now lets you restore your Leopard clients to a previous, unharmed state, using Time Machine backups. For example, you can schedule a lab full of Macs to be rolled back to a certain state on Sunday once every 4 weeks, letting you effortlessly maintain a set of Macs in a preconfigured state. With LANrev's new Time Machine command you can centrally enable, disable, start, and stop Time Machine backups on your Mac OS 10.5 clients at the same. The following New Time Machine related information items have also been added to help you better manage Time Machine on client computers.

  • Time Machine Auto Backup Enabled
  • Time Machine Status
  • Time Machine Backup Disk
  • Time Machine Lastest Backup
  • Time Machine Oldest Backup
  • Time Machine Snapshot Count
  • Time Machine Disk Size
  • Time Machine Disk Free

New Remote Control Integration

Leopard admin consoles can take advantage of the new remote control integration with the Mac OS 10.5 Screen Sharing application included in Leopard. This integration provides a world-class remote control experience from Leopard admin consoles to other clients without requiring the purchase of any additional software. One can even remote control PCs running a VNC compatible server or host.

Mac OS X Leopard Patch Management

LANrev's automated patch management has been updated to include support for Mac OS 10.5 updates. This means LANrev's Software Distribution Center is now able to provide patch management for every major Mac and Windows operating system, including Mac OS 10.3-10.5 and Windows 2000 Professional-Windows Vista.

Faster InstallEase Repackaging

Taking the 'after' snapshot on Leopard is nearly instantaneous. This essentially cuts down your repackaging time by nearly half and frees up your time for other tasks.

Code Signed Binaries

All LANrev Mac binaries are now code signed to ensure that your copy of LANrev has not been modified by malware after it was released by LANrev.

General LANrev Features

Improved ImageLive Disk Imaging

Progress indicators on client machine for the ImageLive re-imaging process have been added so local users can estimate when the ImageLive operation will finish and they can use their computers again. Users can now be prompted to restart after the imaging process is done to minimize the chances of any data loss during the post-imaging reboot. You can now also specify a disk image on a server, drastically reducing the free disk space required on a client machine for an ImageLive operation by 40%. Block copy (via the "Erase volume before re-imaging" option) is now supported for restoring other volumes besides the startup volume, resulting in much faster image restoration. Predefined ImageLive disk images are no longer locked in the Reinstall Computer command and can now be modified, allowing you to use the same disk image for different situations that require slight modifications. Not having to create an entirely new disk image definition saves valuable disk space on your staging servers.

New Remote Control Integration

LANrev now includes support for the Microsoft Remote Desktop 2.0 client in the Mac admin console, which provides better compatibility with Vista, improved security features, and better customization options.

Improved PC USB and ATA Inventory

The following information items can now also be gathered for PCs - USB Serial Number, USB Max. Power, USB Device Speed, USB Product Version, USB Device Protocol, USB Device Class, USB Device Subclass, ATA Serial Number, ATA Unit Number, and ATA Bus Number. These additional information items for PCs ensures that LANrev continues to be unparalleled when it comes to system inventory.

Better Software Installation Status Reporting

The "New Missing Software Packages Group" command lets you create custom installation status reports to determine which clients have been assigned a software package that has yet to be deployed. Coupled with the existing installation status reports, you can quickly tell at a glance exactly which machines have already installed assigned packages and which ones still need to install them.

Enhanced License Status Reporting

A new History Summary report type has been added to the License Monitoring Center to improve Sarbanes-Oxley compliance reporting. This report provides additional information on the minimum, average, and maximum license usage for specified periods.

Launchd Startup Support

The Mac LANrev Server and Agent are now started via launchd, except on Mac OS 10.3. This guarantees LANrev's uptime since these components will be automatically restarted by the system even if an admin user terminates them. The side effect is that you can no longer start and stop the LANrev Server and Agent via systemstarter but must use launchctl instead.

*LANrev functionality is unique, powerful, and Patent Pending
